A few weeks ago I made a new friend from New Orleans, LA. His name is Jason Stancliffe and he was sad to be missing Mardi Gras. (the good parts of it) I guess in Louisiana (and the south) they have a tradition of making King Cakes, especially around Mardi Gras. It is tradition. Jason decided to teach me how to make them and show off his cooking skills. We spent a whole saturday making these wonderful cakes. They are more like big cinnamon rolls (or coffee cake) with dyed sugar on top to make the different colors. Each color stands for something. Gold (yellow) is Power, green is Faith, and purple is Justice. It was really fun learning how to braid the bread and learn a little more Mardi Gras history. I always thought it was bad but it has some good things too. After making the King Cakes we went back to my apartment and Jason tried French braiding my hair. Lets just say he did a lot better job on the Cakes.

Sewing
Wow! I realized I haven't blogged in a while. SOThis semester I have been taking a sewing class with my mom. It is really awesome! I am learning so many different tricks that will help me in years to come. I just finished making place mats. I decided to make themed place mats to use in February. They didn't turn out as well as I was hoping but they are still super cute! I am so thankful for the opportunity to take this class with my mom. She makes it so much fun and all the other girls ask her sewing questions because she is a pro!
